Why We Resist

Just Plain Mean Spirited

Fans and players from five African World Cup countries face $15,000 bond to enter US. A newly expanded policy from the Trump administration could require travelers from five World Cup-qualified countries to front a bond of up to $15,000 in order to enter the United States for the tournament.

Democracy –  On the Eve of Destruction

Today a Welfare Trillionaire is Born. SpaceX goes public today at around $1.7 trillion. It wasn’t like Elon Musk invented some amazing capacity. He didn’t do something transformational for the world. He didn’t harness electricity. He didn’t invent the transistor. He didn’t invent rocket flight. He didn’t invent satellite technology. He didn’t even make any of it that much better. He learned how to game the system.

ICE and Immigration

ICE going to ‘be out there every day’ during World Cup. The secretary of the Department of Homeland Security said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will be “out there every day” during the FIFA World Cup 2026. U.S. bars entry of FIFA World Cup referee from Somalia, citing “vetting concerns”.  A FIFA-selected referee and the only World Cup official from Somalia—was denied entry into the United States after arriving at Miami International Airport. U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed he was turned away due to “vetting concerns.” FIFA confirmed he will be unable to officiate at the tournament. This is a man chosen to referee the world’s biggest sporting event. He never even made it through the airport. Seattle labor groups prepare for increased ICE presence at the World Cup

History Will Call Them Monsters: The Politicians Who Cage Children and Called It Patriotism. Future generations will struggle to understand how a nation that claimed to love children could deliberately subject them to fear, isolation, sickness, & despair in the name of Donald Trump & the GOP. Courts set a 20-day limit on ICE holding young children, but the Trump regime and their for-profit prison partners making $200 per person per day or more routinely ignore those orders. ‘This place broke something in us’: Kids languish in ICE detention long past 20-day court limit. The Trump administration has detained more than 900 children — including a boy with severe autism — for longer than allowed under a decades-old legal settlement.

The Epstein Files – No need to explain further

6 Takeaways From the Story of How the Epstein Files Paralyzed the White House. Senior officials clashed in a series of meetings as they struggled to manage a crisis over the president’s refusal to release the documents. The government’s national-security bunker became an Epstein war room and the president wanted the whole thing buried. Among their revelations: Trump wanted the whole thing buried  (and snapped at anyone who brought it up), while Vice President JD Vance argued for releasing all the files. Read more takeaways. The two reporters, Maggie  Haberman and Jonathan Swan, talk about how Trump’s team handled the Epstein files without him in this video.

What Resistance Looks Like

Donate $30 now to help Move On fly our Red Card ICE banner over AT&T Stadium this Sunday. Billions of fans will be watching the 2026 FIFA World Cup, happening on American soil for the first time in decades. And ICE plans to be there. That’s why as part of our sustained campaign against ICE’s brutality and lawlessness, MoveOn is renting an airplane and flying a banner over the first World Cup game at AT&T Stadium outside of Dallas this Sunday—the venue hosting more World Cup matches than anywhere else in the country. Every dollar gets us closer to liftoff. Will you donate to help us pull it off?

Watch the Piedmont Raging Grannies sing the Bette Midler rewrite of Woody Guthrie’s 1940 classic song! Watch Bette Midler sing the new lyrics to address ”this unprecedented destruction of all normal behavior” and to remind us all that we have power at the midterms (yes we do!).

Warrantless surveillance: Thank your representative for voting against a three-week FISA extension — and keep the pressure on!
DEADLINE: Jun 19 • 5:00pm
The House voted against Trump’s request for a short-term reauthorization, 198-218. Good news! Most of Washington’s representatives voted no, so let’s thank them. (Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Dan Newhouse, and Michael Baumgartner voted yes, so if they’re your rep, we’ve got another action for you.)

Good News

Graham Platner, a progressive oyster farmer and Marine veteran, won the Democratic primary to run for the U.S. Senate in Maine, despite a string of controversies. He will face the Republican incumbent, Senator Susan Collins, in a race that may determine control of the Senate.

State Rep from Bremerton fights ethics charges in rare public hearing

Washington state Rep. Tarra Simmons got her long-sought opportunity Tuesday to publicly defend herself against an array of ethics charges. The Bremerton Democrat  emphatically denies wrongdoing and calls the charges unsubstantiated. But as the case has dragged on, she said her political foes have been wielding the allegations as a cudgel in an ongoing campaign of harassment. The Facts Clear Rep. Simmons and Undercut Opponents’ Narrative. One thing is unmistakably clear: the allegations against Representative Tarra Simmons are not only unproven they are contradicted by sworn testimony and grounded in novel, untested interpretations of the Ethics Act. Her choice to pursue a public hearing exposed those weaknesses and reaffirmed her commitment to transparency, due process, and ethical public service.

The public deserves to know a few facts missing from headlines. In  her consideration to request a hearing, she thought of other legislators who  have or will face similar situations without due process. Watch day one and day two of the Ethics Hearing. NOTE: After research and reviewing the credentials and experience of both candidates for State Representative in the 23rd LD, the NKI Endorsement Team has unanimously voted to endorse Rep Tarra Simmons.
