Staying Safe: Know Your Rights for No Kings Events
DEADLINE: Jun 15 • 12:00am
On June 14th, while President Trump’s military parade takes place in the capitol, communities across the country will mobilize for the No Kings national day of action to send a powerful message: We reject authoritarianism and we will not stand by as our freedoms are eroded. Here is a Protest Pocket Guide to print out and keep with you. Keep safe, stay calm and be peaceful.

Below is a kindly reminder to not sit down if it is not safe. Getting back up again can take time, especially if you are an elder. Standing silently and other methods may be safer.

Why We Persist in Resisting

Watch: LA police filmed shooting woman point-blank with ‘less lethal’ round Woman in video appears unarmed as she walks alone before police shoot her near her residence.

Watch: Sen. Padilla Handcuffed, Forcibly Removed From DHS Press Conference

California Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference in Los Angeles earlier today. The Senator’s office said, “He tried to ask the Secretary a question, and was forcibly removed by federal agents, forced to the ground and handcuffed. He is not currently detained, and we are working to get additional information.”

Watch: Donald Trump has been ordered to stand down.

MAJOR BREAKING: Gavin Newsom announces Donald Trump has LOST and the National Guard will be back under Newsom’s command at noon tomorrow (Friday). This ruling is a result of this lawsuit: California is Suing Trump Over Federalizing National Guard. California is suing President Donald Trump Monday over his move to federalize the state’s National Guard.

What lead up to the lawsuit and ultimate WIN by Govenor Newsom:

Trump and Stephen Miller have been driving a rapacious, vicious escalation in ICE raids and detentions. ICE agents have been assigned massive quotas for detentions, and to meet them, they’re going after the people they can find — workers at job sites, immigrants who are following all the rules and reporting for check-ins at courthouses, kids at schools. Over the weekend, this led to a predictable clash in Los Angeles. Facts are important, so here’s a timeline of events:

Friday (6/6): Surprise ICE sweeps in LA leading to the detaining of more than 40 workers. Nonviolent protestors gather indifferent parts of the city.

Saturday (6/7): At a nonviolent protest, California’s SEIU leader David Huerta, a US citizen, is assaulted, tear-gassed and arrested by ICE. Trump calls up 2,000 California National Guard troops over the objection of the governor and mayor, even as the Los Angeles Police Department applauds the protests for remaining peaceful.

Sunday (6/8): Military Humvees arrive in LA. Protesters block the freeway. LAPD declares unlawful assembly and fires non-lethal rounds and tear gas on protestors and journalists. Trump (through Secretary of Defense Hegseth) escalates further by threatening to mobilize 500 Marines.

Monday (6/9): It’s reported that 700 Marines are being deployed to LA over the next 24-hours.
Trump and his cadre are escalating to cause enormous human harm against those they view as less than human. But they’re also escalating to create chaos they can then use to legitimize further escalation. So while protests were overwhelmingly peaceful, when some bad actors engaged in property destruction or violence, the Trump team used that as an excuse to escalate further. That’s their plan — rinse and repeat.

Read: Statements from Alt National Park Services regarding the current situation in Los Angeles.

Trump is deploying 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s request or consent. Governor Newsom has publicly condemned the move, calling it “purposefully inflammatory”. The Alt National Park Service give their point of view and they have been very accurate and transparent. Read more.

Trump, a failed businessman and serial conman, didn’t stumble into power because he had a vision. He stumbled into it like a raccoon into a jewelry store: overwhelmed, opportunistic, and desperate to grab everything shiny before the lights come on. Read more

Upcoming Events

June 14th at 8:30-9:15am starting at City Hall – Silent Peace March

Then encouraging everyone to attend Juneteenth in Bremerton

June 14th: (Juneteenth in Bremerton), 10:15am-3pm, is an important annual event in Bremerton that we support. Midtsommer Fest, Poulsbo’s annual Scandinavian solstice festival, will be using the gazebo in Poulsbo on June 14th from 10am to pm. So, while Trump revels in his megalomaniacal show of military force birthday party in the nation’s capital on June 14, we will join nationwide demonstrations with a NO KINGS! We will have a Silent Peace March, 8:30-9:15am (coinciding in real-time with the extravaganza in D.C.) We will gather at Poulsbo City Hall with signs and march promptly to Front Street for the loop and back IN SILENCE. No speakers, no chants, no music – a truly silent and focused demonstration. We encourage people to bring signs that say either NO KINGS! or PEACE. This gives us time to make our point and move on to continue the day. Bremerton’s Juneteenth organizers are inviting democracy groups throughout Kitsap to rally with them at the Norm Dicks Building in Bremerton at 10:15 and join the Freedom March to Evergreen Rotary Park for the festival

Kitsap County Democrats monthly membership meeting

Where: Cloverleaf Bar and Grill, 1240 Hollis St, Bremerton

Why should I attend?  At this time what we need to address national issues and, at the same time, we need to address our local issues – an army of peaceful protestors with a commitment to nonviolent action, an army of canvassers and PCOs.  We need More Members, not More Money.
Reach out to our communities – where they are – and support them in a way that shows they are not without power, without a voice. This is the real, difficult and step by step work of bringing “We The People” to life in the political arena. Become a PCO (Precinct Committee Officer)

Meet with Shasti, Chair of the WA Democratic Party

On Zoom, Click here to join. (Meeting ID: 895 7014 4273 Passcode: 842127)

Take Action Now…What are you prepared to do:

The Trump administration has taken another step towards its long planned takeover of our government – sending in the National Guard and threatening to send in the Marines. All to escalate a protest against his own form of Brown Shirts, ICE agents. There is obviously no need to quell a “rebellion” in Los Angeles that the LAPD – no left-wing organization – said was peaceful.

At this time what we need to address this national issue is the same as what we need to address our local issues – an army of peaceful protestors with a commitment to nonviolent action, an army of canvassers and PCOs.

Process the news with Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg

Every Thursday at 3pm, we take a step back to absorb the news of the past week, draw inspiration from the work Indivisibles and allies are doing all across the country, and talk about how we fight back. The onslaught of news, the chaos coming out of the White House – it’s all meant to overwhelm us. It’s a deliberate strategy to sow confusion and make us believe we are powerless to fight back. The antidote: Coming together in community to process what’s happening, to sift through what’s important and what’s just noise, and coalesce around strategies for fighting back Click here to register

Federal Building Fridays 11:30 AM-1:30 PM

Come for 5 minutes or 2 hours – we’ll be there every week

Where: Henry M. Jackson Federal Building, 915 2nd Ave, Seattle
If the Trump / Musk agenda were happening in any other country no one would hesitate to call it a coup in progress. Naomi Klein has called it a “counter revolution”, though she points out that we never completed the revolution, so we find ourselves defending a future which hasn’t yet manifested itself. We must accept that saving American democracy is up to us – there’s no cavalry coming.
