Why We Persist in Resisting
It’s All About the Big, Ugly Spending Bill

Read: U.S. House Republicans push through massive tax and spending bill slashing Medicaid

This budget calls for over $1 TRILLION in cuts to Medicare and SNAP food assistance programs; $700 BILLION in cuts to Medicaid; $15 BILLION in cuts to the Department of Education; $18 BILLION in cuts to the National Institute of Health; $26 BILLION in cuts from the rental assistance program, including Section 8. All for the nation’s richest 5% to get an estimated $4 TRILLION in tax cuts.

House Republicans are pushing to slash nearly $1 trillion from two of the nation’s bedrock safety net programs, Medicaid and food stamps, as part of their sweeping package aimed at enacting President Donald Trump’s agenda. If the legislation is approved, millions of Americans could lose access to these benefits as a result of a historic pullback in federal support.

The provision “would make most existing injunctions—in antitrust cases, police reform cases, school desegregation cases, and others—unenforceable,” Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of the University of California Berkeley School of Law, told Newsweek. “It serves no purpose but to weaken the power of the federal courts.”

Read: Fears over Columbia Basin dams, hydroelectricity grow asagencies lose hundreds of employees

Hundreds of federal employees managing the nation’s main hydropower corridor have retired, resigned or been released due to Trump orders and hiring freezes. Grand Coulee Dam is among the most powerful energy-generating dams on earth. It’s the bedrock of the federal Columbia River Power System — a network of 31 dams supplying more than half of the hydropower in the Northwest. Grand Coulee alone, overseen by the federal Bureau of  Reclamation, generates one-quarter of that

June 14th at 8:30-9:15am starting at  City Hall – Silent Peace March

Then encouraging everyone to attend Junteenth in Bremerton

June 14th: (Juneteenth in Bremerton), 10:15am-3pm, is an important annual event in Bremerton that we support. Midtsommer Fest, Poulsbo’s annual Scandinavian solstice festival, will be using the gazebo in Poulsbo on June 14th from 10am to pm. So, while Trump revels in his megalomaniacal show of military force birthday party in the nation’s capital on June 14, we will join nationwide demonstrations with a NO KINGS! We will have a Silent Peace March, 8:30-9:15am (coinciding in real-time with the extravaganza in D.C.) We will gather at Poulsbo City Hall with signs and march promptly to Front Street for the loop and back IN SILENCE. No speakers, no chants, no music – a truly silent and focused demonstration. We encourage people to bring signs that say either NO KINGS! or PEACE. This gives us time to make our point and move on to continue the day. Bremerton’s Juneteenth organizers are inviting democracy groups throughout Kitsap to rally with them at the Norm Dicks Building in Bremerton at 10:15 and join the Freedom March to Evergreen Rotary Park for the festival

Process the news with Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg

Every Thursday at 3pm, we take a step back to absorb the news of the past week, draw inspiration from the work Indivisibles and allies are doing all across the country, and talk about how we fight back. The onslaught of news, the chaos coming out of the White House – it’s all meant to overwhelm us. It’s a deliberate strategy to sow confusion and make us believe we are powerless to fight back. The antidote: Coming together in community to process what’s happening, to sift through what’s important and what’s just noise, and coalesce around strategies for fighting back Click here to register

Federal Building Fridays 11:30 AM  1:30 PM

If the Trump / Musk agenda were happening in any other country no one would hesitate to call it a coup in progress. Naomi Klein has called it a “counter revolution”, though she points out that we never completed the revolution, so we find ourselves defending a future which hasn’t yet manifested itself. We must accept that saving American democracy is up to us – there’s no cavalry coming.
